In another example of Montreat moving forward, Conference Center has partnered with Montreat College to renovate, and re-open the popular Huckleberry café as a year-round gathering place for the community. According to this blog post by the Montreat Conference Center, students, conferees, residents, and the public are welcome to partake in an expanded menu that includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrées; snacks and late night specialties; and Fair Trade Certified™, organic coffee from Black Mountain’s own Dynamite Roasting Company. Free wi-fi is also available. And, of course, the, um, world-famous Huck ice cream cones.
The idea for the “Huck,” as it’s affectionately known, dates back in the mid-1960s. Eventually, it became known as “The Canteen,” and renamed “The Huckleberry” in 1982, as a snack bar for summer conferees. It’s still located on the top floor of the Moore Center overlooking Lake Susan, just above the Montreat Book Store & General Store.
So, tell us: what other Montreat favorite hang-outs do you love?
